2015 Corvette Gets 29 MPG with New 8-Speed

2015 Corvette Gets 29 MPG with New 8-SpeedBAY CITY, Mich. – Just a few days ago production of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette began at General Motor’s Bowling Green, Kentucky plant. And with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, the 2015 Corvette will get 29 mpg when it hits the streets!

In fact, 29 mpg is the highest EPA highway fuel economy rating the Corvette has ever received! The new 8L90 transmission replaces the previous six-speed transmission and boosts fuel economy by 3.5%! Since the Corvette doesn’t have much space to spare, engineers had to design the new eight-speed transmission to be the same size as the six-speed while also improving performance. And not only does it offer greater performance and efficiency, but it is lighter than the six-speed! With a few more pounds of air pressure in the tires, the Corvette’s chief engineer said they could have pushed the rating to 30 mpg, but they didn’t want to compromise the sports car’s ride and handling, so the 2015 Corvette will officially get 29 mpg with the new 8-speed transmission.

But the 2015 Vette isn’t just fuel efficient, it’s also faster. Equipped with paddle-shifters, the new transmission allows the sports car to accelerate from 0-60 in just 3.7 seconds!
